Random Name Picker

What is random name picker?

A random name picker is used for giveaways, raffles, classroom turns, team assignments and deciding who goes first. A neutral tool avoids arguments about fairness.

Each name has the same chance and no name is picked twice in one draw.

How to use the random name picker

1. Paste names, one per line.
2. Set the number of winners.
3. Press Calculate.

How the random name picker works

Names are placed in a pool. For each winner, one name is chosen at random using a bias free generator and removed from the pool.

Worked example

Common uses of the random name picker

• Selecting winners of a social media giveaway.
• Choosing who presents next in a class or team meeting.
• Assigning chores or secret Santa style tasks.
• Picking a restaurant from a list of options.
• Splitting a group into a fair order.

Tips and common mistakes

For contests, check local rules on prize draws and publish the rules.

Show your screen or record the draw to prove it is fair.

Background: what to know before you rely on it

Fair selection builds trust. People accept an outcome more easily if the process was open and random. Good practice for giveaways is to state the rules, close entries at a set time, remove duplicates and record your screen during the draw. Rules about prize draws differ by country and platform, and some require a free entry method or prohibit certain mechanics, so check them first. For classrooms, a random picker avoids the feeling that the teacher favors some students. The list stays in your browser and is cleared when you close the page.

Private, free and fast

This tool runs entirely in your browser. What you type or choose is not uploaded to a server and is not saved after you close the page, which keeps it fast and private. It is free to use as often as you like. See more in all generators, or browse the full list of tools.
