What is days until calculator?
A days until calculator is a quick countdown tool. People use it for birthdays, weddings, holidays, exams, product launches, visa appointments and the end of a notice period.
If the date is in the past, the same tool tells you how many days have gone by, which is handy for tracking habits, anniversaries and warranties.
How to use the days until calculator
- Choose the date you are counting to.
- Press Calculate.
- See the days, weeks and weekday. A past date shows the days since.
How the days until calculator works
Both today and your target are reduced to calendar dates without a time of day. The tool then subtracts one from the other, so the result is always a whole number of days.

Tips and common mistakes
Bookmark the page and open it each day for a countdown. Everything is calculated live.
For long projects, split the total into weeks and set a goal for each week.
Background: what to know before you rely on it
Countdowns work because a clear number turns a vague wish into a plan. Psychologists describe the goal gradient effect, where people work harder as the end gets close. Seeing 72 days left is more motivating than seeing a date in December. For long goals, convert the days into weeks and set a small target for each week. If the date is in the past, the same tool becomes a streak counter, which is useful for habits and recovery milestones. Remember that the number depends on your device date, so a phone with a wrong clock will give the wrong answer.
Private, free and fast
This tool runs entirely in your browser. What you type or choose is not uploaded to a server and is not saved after you close the page, which keeps it fast and private. It is free to use as often as you like. See more in all date and time tools, or browse the full list of tools.
Frequently asked questions
How many days until a date?
Subtract today from the date. The calculator does that and shows weeks and the weekday as well.
Can I count days since a past date?
Yes. Enter a past date and the label changes to days since.
Does it use my time zone?
It uses your device date, so the count rolls over at your local midnight.
